Frequently Asked Questions

VoiceArrest System Features

Can individual emitter (speaker) volume and tone be adjusted on the VoiceArrest?

The VoiceArrest is a Direct Field system using Ultra-wide Dispersion speakers to radiate sound directly into the space below, and doesn’t require tuning like other systems. Typical variation in the spectral balance at any office or cubicle is within 1 decibel of optimum at any octave band over the entire critical voice frequency range of 250 Hz to 4,000 Hz.

While individual speaker adjustability is promoted as a feature or benefit on plenum based systems, it is in fact a necessity for them. The return air openings in the ceiling, ventilation slots in lighting fixtures, building structural beams, fireproofing, large ducts or other mechanical components in the plenum cause non-uniformity in the background sound below.

Once a plenum-based system is installed, it must be tuned. The settings on each speaker are adjusted in an attempt to correct and equalize spatial and tonal uniformity below. Typical spatial variability for plenum-based systems after professional tuning is still 3 to 5 dB.

Is it possible to adjust the volume independently for different departments?

Yes. If the sales department needs more volume than the accounting department, a Control Module can be added to provide zone control.

However, due to the high degree of spatial & tonal uniformity, and the greater speech privacy at lower setting (3 to 5 dB), this isn’t necessary in most applications.

How do you change the volume on the VoiceArrest System?

The system comes with a hand held remove that is required to change the volume setting. This prevents tampering or changing by unauthorized personnel.

Can the VoiceArrest System be used as a paging system?

Yes. The incredible uniformity supplied by the Ultra-wide Dispersion speakers of the VoiceArrest System in combinaton with the appropriate VoiceArrest Paging Interface will deliver a clean, clear page without the ““startle effect” commonly associated with conventional paging speakers.

Can the VoiceArrest System provide background music?

Yes. The VoiceArrest System can be combined with music sources to take advantage of the Ultra-wide Dispersion speakers and deliver music uniformly into the workspace.

However, keep in mind, that if you are adding masking to the workplace to increase employee productivity, music tends to distract workers thereby reducing their efficiently.
